TNPSC Group 1 Exam Eligibility Criteria

The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) sets the eligibility criteria for the Group 1 Services Exam (Combined Civil Services Examination – I) in the state.

The General Eligibility Criteria for all TNPSC Exams are:

  1. Citizenship
  2. Character and Antecedents
  3. No Bigamy
  4. Related to applicants already in a government service
  5. Sound Health etc.
  6. Age Limit
  7. Knowledge of Tamil

Candidates should first go through the detailed general eligibility criteria which are given on the TNPSC official website under “Instructions to Applicants”.

For differently-abled persons, the age limit relaxation as per TNPSC eligibility conditions is up to 10 years over and above the limit given above.

For Ex-Servicemen, the upper age limit is:

  • Open Category – 48 years
  • SC/SC(A), ST, MBC/DC, BC/BCM – 53 years

The educational qualification needed for the TNPSC Group 1 exam is a graduate degree from:

  • A university incorporated by a Central or State Act or
  • An educational institution established by an Act of Parliament or
  • A deemed University under Section 3, UGC Act 1956.

Aspirants who are in their final year can also apply for the TNPSC Group 1 Preliminary Exam but they need to submit proof of passing while applying for the Main stage of the exam.

In the TNPSC Eligibility for Group 1 Exam, there is a mention of preferential qualification in case of certain posts.

For e.g., candidates who possess National awards for Physical efficiency will be given preference (other things being equal) for the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police.

TNPSC Group 2 Eligibility Criteria

The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) has issued a set of eligibility guidelines, including the TNPSC Group 2 age limit for various posts that come under the TNPSC Group 2 exam. The TNPSC Group 2 exams offer candidates a shot at a wide range of vacancies across different departments of the Tamil Nadu Government. This is the reason why it is a highly sought after and competitive exam. The first step in getting ready for the exam includes understanding the age limit and other TNPSC eligibility criteria associated with the exam.

The TNPSC Group 2 exam will open a gateway to around 3000 vacancies approximately for TNPSC Group 2 and 2A Recruitment. These vacancies are divided according to categories (General or reserved) and district. The vacancies also depend upon the number of posts the TNPSC is recruiting for.

The TNPSC Group 2 age limit is 18 to 30 years for students belonging to the general category. There is no upper age limit for candidates belonging to SC/ST/BC/MBC categories. Read on to know more about the eligibility criteria in detail.

TNPSC Group 2 Eligibility Criteria – Age

The TNPSC Group 2 age limit is almost the same for every post except a few. The age limit is set at 18 to 30 years except for Sub-Registrar Grade 2, Probation Officer, and Junior Employment Officer (Differently Abled). The age limit for these three are,

  • Sub-Registrar Grade 2- 20 to 30 years
  • Probation Officer- 22 to 30 years
  • Junior Employment Officer (Differently Abled)- 18-40 years.

There is no maximum TNPSC Group 2 age limit for candidates belonging to SC/ST, Most Backward Classes/ Denotified Communities, Backward Classes, and Destitute Widows.

The age limit for the post of Deputy Commercial Tax officer is 18 to 30 years. For candidates who hold a law degree, the maximum age limit is 32 years. While for candidates belonging to SC/ST, Most Backward Classes/ Denotified Communities, Backward Classes, and Destitute Widows, it is below 35 years (37 years for Law degree holders).

TNPSC Group 2 Eligibility Criteria – Educational Qualification

Since the TNPSC Group 2 exams cover a lot of posts and departments, the educational qualification required for each of them is varied too. Each post requires either a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, diploma, or a 10+2 qualification from a certified college. The detailed eligibility is given below.

TNPSC Group 2 Eligibility Criteria – Nationality

The TNPSC Group 2 exams provide an opportunity to get selected for various posts for candidates belonging to India. To apply for various posts and departments, the candidate should be a resident of India. Certain other guidelines are instituted for Indian candidates residing in foreign countries. A candidate is eligible if they are, 

  1. A citizen of India
  2. A subject of Nepal or Bhutan
  3. A Tibetian refugee who came over to India before the 1st January 1962 to permanently settle in India
  4. A person who has an Indian Origin and has migrated from countries like Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia to permanently settle in India. 
  5.  An applicant belonging to categories 3 or 4 or who is a subject of Nepal or Bhutan should also obtain a certificate of eligibility given by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

 

            The eligibility criteria also differ for candidates from other states to apply for the exam. However, the candidates from the state of Tamil Nadu are given more preference as compared to candidates from other states. 

 

TNPSC Group 2 Eligibility Criteria – Number of Attempts

The candidates can apply online and sit for the exams any number of times provided they haven’t crossed the TNPSC group 2 age limit. As there is no maximum age limit set for candidates belonging to SC/ST, BC/MBC categories, they can appear for the exam as many times they wish to. 

TNPSC Group 2 Eligibility Criteria – Experience

The TNPSC Group 2 examination doesn’t require any experience except the fulfillment of the TNPSC group 2 age limit and the educational qualifications. The educational qualification required for the various posts must be fulfilled. Not fulfilling the age and educational qualifications of the post will result in immediate disqualification of the candidate from the selection process. 

 

TNPSC Group 2 Eligibility Criteria – Important Points

The following are some important points which a candidate must keep in mind before applying for any post under the TNPSC Group 2 Recruitment. 

  • The candidates should have 10+2 qualification from an educational institute recognized by the Tamil Nadu State government and must be between 18-30 years of age. In case of a candidate belonging to Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Caste (Arunthathiyars), Scheduled Tribes, Most Backward Classes / Denotified Communities, Backward Classes, Backward Classes (Muslims) and Destitute Widows, there is no. maximum age limit. 
  • The candidates should have appropriate bachelor’s, Master or diploma required to sit for the exam and must be eligible according to the citizenship guidelines of Tami Nadu State.

Number of Attempts for IAS Exam

  • The candidate from the general category can attempt the IAS exam up to 6 times until 32 years. Nevertheless, consider the upper age limit as an important IAS exam eligibility.

  • The candidate from the other backward category can attempt the IAS exam up to 9 times until 35 years.

  • The candidate from the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe can attempt the IAS exam up to unlimited times until 37 years.

  • The physically disabled candidates from the general category can attempt the IAS exam up to 9 times until 42 years. In fact, it is the special IAS exam eligibility criteria declared by UPSC.

Whenever you attend the UPSC exam, the commission records your number of attempts. If you fill up the application form and fail to attend the exam, the attempt made is not counted. Sometimes, the candidate attends only one paper.

Consequently, the UPSC considers it to be one attempt. Due to any disqualification or cancellation, the candidate might be held back. If the candidate appears in the exam hall, it will count as one attempt.
